Mostly new council for PIB

The Penticton Indian Band elected a mostly-new band council Wednesday evening, with results of the election made public early Thursday morning on Facebook.

Altogether, eight councillors were voted in, among 30 candidates, including three incumbents: Clint George, Joseph Pierre and Tim Lezard.

Former chief Jonathan Kruger was voted back into council, following his defeated run for re-election as chief in October. Kruger was a councillor before his election as chief.

The new council and the votes they received are:

  • Elliott Tonasket - 162 votes
  • Caxasket Joseph Pierre - 148
  • Suzanne Johnson - 143 
  • Naomi Gabriel - 141 
  • John Kruger - 138
  • Clint George Wapupxn - 129
  • Denise Lecoy - 123 
  • Tim Lezard - 120

More information is expected to be released Thursday morning, and candidates are to swear in the oath of office Friday morning.
