The Penticton Indian Band elected a mostly-new band council Wednesday evening, with results of the election made public early Thursday morning on Facebook.
Altogether, eight councillors were voted in, among 30 candidates, including three incumbents: Clint George, Joseph Pierre and Tim Lezard.
Former chief Jonathan Kruger was voted back into council, following his defeated run for re-election as chief in October. Kruger was a councillor before his election as chief.
The new council and the votes they received are:
- Elliott Tonasket - 162 votes
- Caxasket Joseph Pierre - 148
- Suzanne Johnson - 143
- Naomi Gabriel - 141
- John Kruger - 138
- Clint George Wapupxn - 129
- Denise Lecoy - 123
- Tim Lezard - 120
More information is expected to be released Thursday morning, and candidates are to swear in the oath of office Friday morning.
