Robo kids do battle

Students in grades 5 through 12 battled in the robotic ring at Okanagan College, Wednesday.

The 11th annual Western Canada RoboCup Junior Games featured soccer scrimmages and dance battles.

Students spent a semester learning programming, design and strategies to compete with the best and brightest from across Western Canada.

Showcasing skills and knowledge isn't the only incentive behind the competition. The roots were judged based on their performance in a number of challenges, with the top three teams qualifying to compete in the World RoboCup next year in Nagoya, Japan.

"It has evolved tremendously over the years," said robocup organizer Nadir Ould-Khessal.
