It continues to be a year to remember for Taylor Ruck.
Fresh off a pair of medals at the Rio Olympics, the Kelowna-born swimmer won bronze in the 200 metre freestyle at the World Short Course Swimming Championships in Windsor, Ont.
She shattered the Canadian record in the process, finishing the race in one minute, 52.50 seconds. That was more than a 1.5 seconds faster than the previous record set in 2009.
Even more amazing, this is the first time Ruck has competed in a short course event, which is contested in a 25-metre pool, as opposed to the traditional 50-metre size.
Italy's Federica Pellegrini (1:51.73) captured gold, while Katinka Hosszu (1:52.28) took the silver.
Ruck swam in the heats of the women's 400-metre freestyle relay, but did not swim in the final. Canada was disqualified after swimming in the wrong order.
Ruck is entered in the women's 400-metre freestyle, scheduled for Friday. She is also expected to take part in other relay races as well.
The 16-year-old Ruck was born in Kelowna, but moved to Arizona at a young age.
