Markets unchanged

North American stock markets were little changed in late morning trading as the price of oil took a step back.

The S&P/TSX composite index gained 4.90 points to 15,100.07.

In the U.S., the Dow Jones industrial average fell 12.84 points to 19,203.40, while the S&P 500 added 0.95 of a point at 2,205.66.

The Nasdaq composite rose by 4.75 points at 5,313.64.

On the commodity markets, the January crude oil contract fell 94 cents to US$50.85 per barrel, while the January contract for natural gas gained 0.6 of a cent at US$3.660 per mmBtu.

The February gold contract declined US$3.30 to US$1,173.20 per ounce and the March copper contract slipped 2.05 cents to US$2.6775 per pound.

The Canadian dollar shed 0.03 of a cent at 75.29 cents US.
