Fire sends two to hospital

Two people were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation after waking up to flames and a smoke-filled house Saturday morning in Rutland.

Fire crews rushed to the 2600 block of Springfield Road just before 7:30 a.m. to find “smoke coming out of the eaves of the house and the front door,” according to Tim Light, platoon captain with the Kelowna Fire Department.

Crews quickly knocked the fire down, and an ambulance took the two adult occupants of the home to the hospital for smoke inhalation treatment.

The fire is believed to have started underneath a small computer desk.

Two children, ages eight and five, who live in the house were fortunately staying at their grandfather's house during the fire.

The family's dog made it out of the blaze unscathed.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
