Major cocaine border bust

The Canada Border Services Agency has seized 107.5 kilograms of suspected cocaine at the Pacific Highway border crossing in Surrey.

On Oct. 21, officers discovered several bricks of white powder among a shipment of rice travelling from the United States into Canada.

The commercial driver associated with the shipment was taken into custody. The drugs were turned over to the RCMP.

“This significant seizure ... highlights the important partnership between the CBSA and the RCMP in keeping Canadians safe by preventing illegal narcotics and prohibited goods from entering our communities," said Dan Bubas, port of entry chief with the CBSA.

The agency says between 2011 and 2015, there were more than 89 narcotic seizures at the Pacific Highway crossing.
