Dog rescued from well

UPDATE: 10 a.m.

There was a tearful reunion Friday morning when an owner was reunited with her dog.

Chinook, a three-year-old cocker spaniel, went missing Wednesday. His owner, Shantelle Lybbert, searched everywhere for the therapy dog.

He was found Friday morning barking at the bottom of a 25-foot-well just off Highway 97 near Highway 33.

Emergency crews gathered as firefighters carefully descended to bring the dog safely out.

"So grateful for all the help that the fire department and policemen have given," said Lybbert. "Just really happy he's OK."

While Lassie is usually the one helping save the boy from the well, a dog is needing some help of its own Friday morning.

The Kelowna Fire Department is engaging in a high-angle rescue to save a cocker spaniel that fell down a 30-foot dry well near Highway 97.

Members of the fire department's technical rescue team are assembling on Highway 97 just north of Highway 33, where the pooch has fallen.
