Anti-council signs pop up

Signs saying "Send council and mayor packing" have recently been posted on poles throughout downtown Penticton.

The list of grievances referenced on the signs include the controversial water slides in Skaha Park, the new casino, staff turnover, downtown redevelopment, metered parking and more.

No one is currently claiming responsibility for the signs.

Members of one of the groups opposed to the waterslide development at Skaha Park wore T-Shirts with the same message to a public information session at the Cherry Lane Shopping Centre earlier this month.

Strong opposition to the water slides development has been ongoing in the community.

Mayor Andrew Jakubeit said in response to the signs, Thursday, that council is always open to constructive feedback and discussion, but simply listing issues without any effort to engage in meaningful discussion to resolve or to clarify concerns is not productive.

"There are actually many significant and positive things happening in the city, some of them are even listed on this poster," he said. "We understand that the Skaha Park issue has been divisive in our community and we have committed to bringing clarity or closure to the entire issue by next week.

"We are making a concerted effort to make information easily available and accessible on our website and through our public engagement process to help people obtain information and voice concerns."
