Cyclist slams windshield

A cyclist is recovering after being struck by a vehicle and smashing into the windshield.

Police say an eastbound Kia Spectra collided with a cyclist at about 11 p.m. Wednesday night in Rutland at the intersection of Springfield Road and Hollywood Road South.

Cpl. Jesse O'Donaghey says the cyclist may not have been able to correctly predict where the car was headed.

"As the weather continues to change and daytime lighting becomes more diminished, cyclists are reminded to ensure they are visible and use proper hand signals, while motorists are reminded to clearly indicate their intentions on the roadway with signal lamps.”

The 60-year-old cyclist from Kelowna was looked after by paramedics. He later went to the hospital for further assessment with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver, a 55-year-old Kelowna woman, stayed at the scene and offered help to the cyclist. Her vehicle had to be towed.

Any witnesses are asked to call the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300.
