Warriors add WHL goalie

The West Kelowna Warriors have made a move to beef up their goaltending.

The Warriors announced Thursday morning they have added 20-year-old Trevor Martin to the roster.

Martin was recently released by the WHL's Red Deer Rebels.

The Warriors originally acquired his rights a year ago in a three-player deal with the Melville Millionaires of the Saskatchewan Junior League. Martin remained with Red Deer following the trade until his release earlier this month.

Martin appeared in 38 games last season, posting a 2.63 goals against average with a save percentage of .911.

In just three games this season, he had a goals against average of 4.14.

Prior to joining the Rebels, Martin played part of a season in Melville, seeing action in 21 games.

He had a 2.15 goals against average with a sparkling save percentage of .929.

To make room on the roster, the Warriors released 20-year-old forward Mitchell Barker.

Barker was acquired by the Warriors in the summer from Victoria for future considerations.

“Adding Trevor will hopefully solidify our goaltending situation,” said Warriors head coach and general manager Rylan Ferster,

“He’s a veteran with a good amount of games under his belt both at the Major Junior and the Junior ‘A’ level.”

The Warriors now have three goaltenders on the roster as Martin joins rookie Shane Farkas and 19-year-old Xavier Burghardt.

The Warriors are hoping Martin can help shore up the position. The team enters the weekend with a team 3.61 goals against average and a save percentage under .900

Martin will start Friday night when the Warriors open a three-game Island Division road trip in Nanaimo.
