A 'senseless' crime

Police are looking for a thief who stole a custom wheelchair from Walmart in West Kelowna.

The "senseless" crime happened just after 3 p.m. on Wednesday, while the victim shopped using one of the store's motorized shopping carts.

“RCMP would like to quickly reunite the victim of this senseless crime with his much-needed mobility device,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey. “We urge the person who took the chair to drop it off at any RCMP detachment or simply return it to the store."

The Helio A7 aluminum wheelchair is black with polymer-type rims and as many as six thick spokes. It has an upgraded seat cushion. The brand name "Motion Composites" is printed on the back of the seat rest.

It's valued at about $3,000.

Police say they are in the process of obtaining video surveillance footage that shows the thief.
