Suspicious fire engulfs boat

UPDATED: 2:24 p.m.

The Kelowna RCMP says the owner of the burned up boat heard a noise outside his home, before discovering his boat on fire.

Jesse O'Donaghey of the Kelowna RCMP has confirmed the fire is being considered suspicious at this time.

ORIGINAL: 11:47 a.m.

A suspicious fire engulfed a boat in the driveway of a house in Rutland Tuesday night, prompting a quick response from the fire department – and an RCMP investigation.

Two fire engines rushed to McPhee Street near Ben Lee Park at 9 p.m.

“Someone on scene used a garden hose to knock the fire down and then our crews just overhauled when they got there to make sure there was nothing else burning,” said Kelowna Fire Department Platoon Capt. Scott Cronquist.

Cronquist didn't know the details of what made the fire suspicious, but said the RCMP is investigating the incident.

The RCMP was not available to comment.
