Crime spree suspect nabbed

A man is in custody after a bizarre crime spree that spanned across Kelowna Monday afternoon.

At 3:45 p.m., staff at Orchard Park Mall called the police with reports of a suspected intoxicated man displaying erratic behaviour at several stores.

Staff reported feeling threatened by the man before he left the mall.

Just over an hour and half later, a person riding a transit bus called police and reported a man, matching the description of the man at the mall, had pointed what appeared to be a weapon at her.

Just a few minutes later, police rushed to the 400 block of Leon Avenue for a report of a third incident involving the same man.

As police passed the nearby 1600 block of Pandosy Street, one of the store's employees waved down the officers and told them the man was inside their store with an apparent weapon.

Police found the man inside the store and arrested him without incident.

“RCMP are looking for the public’s assistance to further their investigation into this bizarre string of events,” said Const. Jesse O’Donaghey in a statement. “Investigators believed that there are likely additional witnesses and or others who had been victimized and have not yet come forward to speak with police.”

The suspect is described by police as a 5-foot-10, 150 pounds, “non-white male” with black hair. He was wearing a green jacket and was carrying a red duffel bag at the time of his arrest.

Police have asked anyone with additional information about the crime spree to call Const. Apollonia De Jong at 250-762-3300.
