Ready for world's best

Organizers are counting down the days until the 2017 World Para Snowboard Championships at Big White.

With 100 days to go, work has begun on the course, and the resort has set the event schedule.

More than 100 para athletes from 25 countries will converge on the mountain for the event.

They'll compete in snowboard-cross and banked slalom in men’s and women’s classifications.

Flynn Seddon, Big White's terrain park and outdoor events director, consulted with athletes and coaches from the past four world cups to build out the event plan.

“(It) will be similar to what we have done in past World Cup events. A community focus and consultations with coaches and athletes to deliver what they want to see and what they want to ride," said Seddon.

Dry land improvements have so far focused on the start section and first turn.

As the 2018 PyeongChang Paralympic Winter Games approach, the competitors will be eager to put down their best performance for the chance to be crowned world champion.

Meanwhile, the event schedule has been released.

It will include opening and closing ceremonies showcasing local artists, kicking off on Feb. 1, followed by training and competition, winding up on Feb. 8.
