Power back on in Mission

UPDATE: 11 a.m.

FortisBC says power has been restored to all customers.

"It was in fact wildlife on the transformer and it did cause quite extensive damage, so it did take the crews longer than they thought to get the power back on," says Amy Bunton, spokeswoman with FortisBC.

Power was restored at about 10:30 a.m., she says.

A small power outage in Kelowna Tuesday morning has grown substantially.

FortisBC says an early morning power outage in the Mission area that initially affected about 20 customers has mushroomed into an outage impacting 320 customers.

Crews were forced to shut off electricity to the extra 300 to make repairs, says Amy Bunton, spokeswoman with FortisBC.

"The crews are still investigating the cause, but we believe it could have been an animal or the rain," says Bunton. "The crews are working hard to restore power."

Customers on Walnut Street, Lakeshore Drive and Meikle Avenue are affected.

Bunton says power is expected to be back on by 10 a.m.

"Of course we understand the inconvenience and we appreciate your patience," she says.
