Tickets with a smile

Teen drivers were ticketed this week at a roadblock outside Kelowna Secondary School.

But they didn't mind.

RCMP school liaison officer Const. Robyn Boffy joined KSS leadership students to issue "positive tickets" for safe driving.

The event was part of National Teen Driver Safety Week.

Tickets were given for such things as not using phones or for wearing seatbelts.

It was a partnership with Parachute, a national charity with a focus on preventing injuries and distracted driving.

Teens who received the tickets are eligible to enter a draw for prizes from local sponsors.

The leadership students also wrote safety messages in chalk on the sidewalks outside the school, such as: Drive Safe and Hands Free.
