Drunk driver busted twice

A Sunshine Coast driver was busted driving drunk twice in one day.

The incident started at 8:45 a.m. on Sunday when police were tipped off about an impaired driver who had visited two Gibsons' liquor stores – both were closed.

Police say he drove recklessly through the town, flattening one of his tires by driving on the sidewalk, hitting a fence and a parked car. He even drove into oncoming traffic at one point.

Police found him in a parking lot trying to fix his flattened tire.

"RCMP arrived and arrested the driver before he could get his tire changed. The male allegedly provided breath samples well in excess of the legal limit," said Sunshine Coast RCMP in a release.

He was released with a driving prohibition. However, later in the day, Mounties were called to a reported drunk driver who'd struck a curb, then drunkenly walked toward a restaurant.

Mounties arrested the driver, who was the same man previously confronted and again failed a breathalyzer.

A 49-year-old man is now facing numerous charges.
