Bust in string of robberies

An alleged busy bank robber is behind bars.

Joshua Carter Friesen was arrested by the Coquitlam RCMP Prolific Target Team on Sept. 22 following an investigation into a series of bank robberies around the Lower Mainland.

Friesen is accused of seven bank robberies in Coquitlam, Burnaby and Vancouver.

“During the course of the investigation, officers with the Robbery Team worked closely with their counterparts in Burnaby and Vancouver, sharing information that ultimately led police to Mr. Friesen,” said Const. Jamie Phillipson.

Friesen has been charged with seven counts of robbery between Aug. 17 and Sept. 17 and will remain in custody pending his next court appearance.

“The crimes of this individual were not restricted by jurisdictional boundaries, so it made sense to take a similar strategy with our investigation,” said Phillipson. “By sharing information with the Burnaby RCMP and Vancouver Police Department, investigators were able to identify and arrest Mr. Friesen, preventing further impact to these three communities.”

None of the charges have been proven in court.
