Kelowna

A place to remember

A new section has been added to Kelowna Memorial Cemetery, where families can pay respect to cremated loved ones.

Legacy Gardens has opened adjacent to the Bennett Memorial and contains 842 niches for cremated remains and 12 above-ground crypts.

“With simple engravings to memorialize loved ones, Legacy Garden niches provide families a peaceful atmosphere when visiting Kelowna’s centrally located municipal cemetery,” cemetery manager David Gatzke said in a statement. “This addition to the cemetery helps to ensure that the park can continue to serve the needs of Kelowna and area residents for many years to come.”

The cemetery has also made upgrades to the Promontory Green Scattering Garden and the Dilworth Mountain Scattering Trail, where remains can be scattered along the eastern end of the cemetery, below Dilworth Mountain.

The cemetery has been located at Spall Road and Bernard Avenue for over a century and currently takes up 50 acres at the base of Dilworth Mountain.
