Bless your pets

Residents are invited to bring their pets to a blessing service in Summerland's Memorial Park this weekend.

The special service is being held Saturday by Summerland United Church with Critteraid in attendance.

"It's basically to honour the animals and show them some appreciation," said Jess Byer, director of animals for Critteraid. "And it's a great way, no matter what your religion, to bring everyone and their pets together."

People who attend are asked to keep their animals in cages or on leashes.

There will also be raffle tickets for gift bags, as well as the opportunity to give donations, with all proceeds going to Critteraid.

The blessing of the animals starts at 10 a.m.

The organization will also be at GardenWorks in Penticton for their Autumn Affair event this weekend.

Critteraid will be selling baked goods and accepting donations.

Rosie, a kitten with an amputated leg, will be there as a special guest. Funds will be collected for Rosie.

"We need funds because we are continually having to pay for medical costs and are always dealing with young kittens needing spay and neuter," said Byer.

Additionally, Critteraid is currently in need of emergency foster care for two cats and their kittens.

Anyone able to help is asked to call Byer at 250-488-3226.
