Postmedia is closing the doors on Vancouver 24 hrs.

The paper will continue to publish using content and resources from the Vancouver Sun and Vancouver Province, but the office is being shuttered.

"It was a cost decision," said Phyllise Gelfand, Postmedia's vice-president, communications. "It's a challenging environment and we have to make tough choices."

Gelfand said the closure affects eight staff, including editorial and sales.

One of those affected, reporter Eric MacKenzie, lamented that he found out his job was lost through social media after Ada Slivinski tweeted about the closure.

She quickly apologized: "Oh god. I'm so sorry Eric! I was told you all were informed."
