Warriors busy, 3 in, 2 out

The West Kelowna Warriors roster looks a lot different today that it did just 24 hours ago.

Warriors coach/GM Rylan Ferster was busy tinkering with his roster, adding three players while moving out a pair.

In the biggest move of the day, the Warriors sent stay-at-home defenceman Tyler Anderson to the Prince George Spruce Kings in exchange for forward Braiden Epp.

Anderson, 20, was a key cog in the Warriors march to the RBC Cup last season. He had four goals for the Warriors while playing in every regular season and post-season game.

Ferster called it a tough deal to make.

“He is a quality person that has done everything we have asked of him. But in this business you have to give to get," said Ferster.

“We needed a veteran forward and Braiden fits that role. A gritty guy that has a nose for the net.”

He has amassed 41 goals and 80 points over that span with the Spruce Kings, including 6 points in 19 playoff games with Prince George.

The Warriors also signed a pair of players released by WHL clubs, including defenceman Scott Allen who played in West Kelowna last season before trying to crack the Calgary Hitmen lineup this season.

“Scott Allan was a huge part in our playoff run last year," said Ferster.

“He is a big presence on the ice and was very good in a shut down role last year.”

The Warriors also signed 19-year-old forward Matthew Campese, released by the Kamloops Blazers.

In 95 games with Victoria and Kamloops, Campese had 10 goals and 16 points.

To make room on the roster, the Warriors sent 18-year-old defenceman Daly Hamilton to the Canmore Eagles for future considerations.

The three additions should be in the lineup Friday when the Warriors host Interior Division leader Penticton.
