A prescribed burn the BC Wildfire Service will be undertaking on Thursday may be visible from Big White and Highway 33.
The burn will span 11.7 hectares, and will take place four kilometres north of Nevertouch Lake, 50 kilometres east of Kelowna.
Authorities are advising that the smoke may linger for up to two weeks.
The burn is intended to limit the amount of dead, combustible material to decrease the risk of large wildfires in the area, and will be closely monitored by the BC Wildfire Service.
It will also prepare the treatment site for tree planting.
All prescribed burns must comply with the Environmental Management Act and the open burning smoke control regulation to minimize the amount of smoke generated, according to a B.C. government release.
To report a wildfire or unattended campfire, call 1 800 663-5555 toll-free or *5555 on a cellphone.
