Kelowna’s newest residential care home is on track and on budget for completion in February.
Construction began last fall at Glenmore Lodge on Drysdale Boulevard. It's being built by Baltic Properties.
The lodge will house 100 publicly funded residential-care beds along with 18 private-pay residential-care beds.
The two interconnected buildings will act as small neighbourhoods to promote community in a home-like environment, Interior Health says.
IH board chair Erwin Malzer said the new beds “will not only provide homes for those in need, they will ensure people are receiving care in the most appropriate place, which ultimately will lower visits to our local emergency department and reduce pressures at our hospitals.”
Residential care services provide 24/7 professional supervision and care in a secure, home-like environment for individuals with complex care needs that can't be met at home or in an assisted-living residence.
IH is focusing on strategies that will shift the system away from hospitals and toward care provided in a community setting. One of these is improving primary and community care outcomes for frail seniors living with complex, chronic conditions.
“Glenmore Lodge will offer services designed to maximize independence and help residents feel comfortable, secure and cared for in a beautiful and modern new home,” said Baltic Properties managing partner Will McKay.
