Smoking tablet diverts flight

More bad news for Samsung.

Just two days after a smoking cellphone Galaxy Note 2 smartphone caused an Indigo Airlines flight to divert in India, a Samsung tablet caused a similar problem on a Delta Airlines flight from Detroit to Amsterdam.

The Boeing 767-400 diverted to Manchester, England, on Sunday when an overheating battery in the device started to smoke.

According to aviation website aeroinside.com, a passenger noticed smoke emanating from a premium-class seat and reported it to the cabin crew.

The aircraft was about 60 miles east of Manchester when the decision was made to turn around and land. It touched down safely 20 minutes later.

Maintenance personnel found the tablet computer under the seat. It's presumed the tablet was lost by a passenger on a previous flight.

The aircraft remained on the ground for about two and a half hours before continuing its journey.

The FAA is reviewing the incident.

The incident follows a worldwide recall of Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 smartphones due to overheating batteries causing fires.
