Vees grab win at showcase

The Penticton Vees continued their success at the BCHL showcase in Chilliwack Friday night, edging out the Prince George Spruce Kings 3-2.

The win marked the tenth straight win for the Vees at the showcase, dating back to September 2012.

Jacob Kamps opened the scoring 14 minutes into the first period with his first BCHL goal.

The Spruce Kings tied it up late in the first period, on an odd goal that initially appeared to hit the crossbar. Upon review, the officials determined the puck had hit the middle post, inside the net, and quickly bounced out.

The Vees retook the lead early in the second off a rebound, and then went up by two with just 15 seconds left in the period.

The Spruce Kings made things interesting late in the third period with a shorthanded goal, but didn't have enough to secure the tie.

The Vees will play their home opener against the West Kelowna Warriors on Sept. 30.
