Jim Carrey's lawyer has slammed allegations he gave his late ex-girlfriend sexually transmitted diseases.

The actor is currently facing a wrongful death lawsuit from Mark Burton, the estranged husband of Cathriona White, whose relationship with Carrey ended for the second time just days before she took her own life in September, 2015.

Burton believes Carrey should be held responsible for White's death, and originally filed legal papers alleging the actor was responsible for providing White with the drugs that led to her passing.

On Thursday (22Sep16), Burton amended his lawsuit to include allegations that his wife told the Dumb and Dumber star she thought she had contracted an STD in a text conversation in February, 2013.

Burton claimed Cathriona discovered she had Herpes Type I, Herpes Type 2 and Gonorrhea. Before committing suicide, White allegedly wrote to Jim, explaining her STDs would make it impossible for her to find someone new after their breakup, referring to herself as "damaged goods".

Burton's revised lawsuit now includes text messages he says Jim and Cathriona exchanged in 2013, including the ones referencing the STDs, according to TMZ.com.

However, Carrey's attorney Marty Singer has now responded to Burton's allegations in a statement, slamming the new claims and the lawsuit as a whole.

"The claim that Mr. Carrey gave Cathriona White an STD is categorically disputed," Singer said. "This is a desperate, bogus claim made by the "husband' of the sham marriage. My client will not pay money to end this opportunist's transparent shakedown lawsuit, and this malicious case will be dismissed.

"Mr. Carrey has suffered a great deal in the last year with the suicide of the woman he dearly loved, and it is outrageous that he should be subjected to this predatory lawsuit."

In a further discussion with TMZ, Singer added the the new claims make no sense because of the dates Burton provided, as White reached out to Carrey in 2014 asking him to give their romance another chance.

Singer also said he has numerous witnesses ready to confirm that Burton "engaged in an illegal sham marriage in violation of the Federal law prohibiting marriage fraud to evade immigration laws", and that he and White didn't even live in the same state following their wedding.
