Kangaroo ultimatum

The owners of Lake Country's Kangaroo Creek Farm are giving two teens a chance to make amends, before they head to the police station.

The owners say a vandalizing duo were caught on tape Sunday night ripping an ear off the farm's large kangaroo statue, Delilah, Queen of the Kangaroos.

This is the second time in the last month one of the ears have been removed from the wooden statue, and the owners believe the same duo may be responsible in both incidents.

“You can see as they approach, they are not just looking at it to decide what they are going to do. They approach at speed, they both reef on the ear rapidly, pull it off and then run away while discarding the ear over the embankment, which is heavily wooded,” said Caroline Wightman, who co-owns and runs the farm with her husband, Greg.

“It is not like they strolled up and were bored and decided to do it on impulse, you can see they have intent as they are crossing the street.”

This pattern of vandalism has now forced the farm to move the statue down the driveway.

Wightman says while they have video that identifies the two that they believe to be teenage boys, they don't want to put it out there until they give the teens a chance to make it right.

“I would like them to come back, apologize and at least make an effort to find that ear down on that embankment, which isn't going to be pleasant,” says Wightman.

“They are going to be struggling back and forth in bushes and weeds and burr plants, but at least they will hopefully make an effort.”

She said if the pair have not come forward by Wednesday evening, she will take the video to the RCMP.

“If they've got any brains at all, they should just suck it up and come and apologize,” says Wightman.

“Even if they can't find the ear. If they come and apologize, try their best to find the ear and ensure us this is not going to happen again, I'll let it go.”
