A 77-year-old woman and her small dog both spent time in hospital for injuries suffered from what she said was a pit bull attack in White Rock.
The incident occurred on the morning of Saturday, Aug. 20, when the White Rock woman said she was walking her dog.
The victim told city officials the pit bull appeared from a nearby property and attacked her dog.
The woman intervened, covering her dog from the larger animal as she tried to separate the pair. While covering her dog's neck, she received "serious injuries" to her hand, White Rock communications manager Farnaz Farrokhi told CTV Vancouver.
The woman said her dog spent the night at a veterinary hospital, but it was still bleeding, and needed to return.
The city is investigating the incident.
In the meantime, the dog remains at home with its owner.
A statement released by the City of White Rock states it is "considering taking serious action against the owner of the pit bull as well as the dog itself, which the city’s Bylaw Enforcement Officers have deemed to be aggressive."
