Eat pasta for Italy

UPDATED: Sept. 6

The fundraising dinners at the Kelowna Italian Club for victims of the Italian earthquake has sold out.

While there is no more room at the Sept. 9 and Sept. 10 meals, those looking to help the cause and fill their stomachs can still order pasta for take-out.

The Kelowna Italian Club is jumping into action and into the kitchen to help raise funds for those affected by the devastating earthquake in Italy.

“We are from Italy and this is a disaster that touches the world. Nobody expected it. You can see the devastation – it is really something,” said club president Joe Iafrancesco.

“The first photo we saw was a shock. Any earthquake is devastating. People working all their lives and then all of sudden their future is destroyed.

To help raised funds, the community is invited down to the Italian Club at 770 Lawrence Avenue on Sept. 9 and 10 for fun, fundraising and a whole lot of pasta.

Handmade pasta, meatballs and garlic toast will be served for $15 per person and can be enjoyed in person or as takeout.

There will be two seatings for dinner on Friday, Sept. 9, one at 5 p.m. and one at 7 p.m.

“Friday night will have door prizes and raffle prizes and of course anyone who would like to donate cash or door prizes, we will take them,” said Iafrancesco.

Take out orders of the pasta will also be available on Saturday, Sept. 10, from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Donations of all sizes are welcome. Iafrancesco said they will be happy with any amount raised, but said they hope to raise $10,000.

All the money raised will contribute to the Red Cross’s relief efforts in Amatrice after last week’s deadly 6.2-magnitude earthquake.

To reserve tickets for the dinner and for takeout orders call Iafrancesco at 250-878-3619 or at 250-860-6325.
