Multiple fires in Vancouver

Fire crews in the Lower Mainland were kept busy over the weekend, tackling several fires.

Officials said an intense fire gutted a home in Surrey in a blaze that started at around 9 a.m. Smoke from the could be seen for kilometres.

Witnesses reported seeing several people and their dogs leaving the home that was up for sale.

It is not known if the fire is suspicious, but RCMP were on scene.

Crews responded to a second fire in Vancouver that forced firefighters to cut a hole in the roof of the Lakewood Drive home to extinguish the flames.

The homeowner apparently tried to put on the fire with a garden hose, something firefighters do not recommend.

A third fire was happened at a home on 214 Place in Langley.

Two people were treated on scene for smoke inhalation.

Neighbours say the fire may have started in a washroom ceiling fan, noting that flames were shooting through the roof.
