Virtual reality is here

For those interested in the latest interactive experience, look no further than downtown Vernon.

The Downtown Internet Lounge has two virtual reality systems up and running that offer gamers and others the chance for a 360 degree experience playing the popular Minecraft game, fighting zombies or even working at a job.

“It's the start of the new gaming era,” said Mike Boschman, co-owner of the internet lounge. “It's really immersive, bringing yourself essentially into a whole new world that you can step out of any time.”

“The industry being in its infancy needs an introduction,” said Boschman.

People can try it out there before deciding to buy an expensive system, said Boschman.

He also believes the reaction from gamers trying the new technology will allow the industry to improve and enhance the experience as development continues.

The internet lounge offers a chance to try to the two systems, the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive, for $10 per half hour.

“At the start of use, when you are just getting into it, a half hour seems to be a good limit so you don't get a bit weary or nauseous. As you grow your VR legs, it seems to take hold pretty good,” said Boschman, who added there are a lot of repeat customers.
