Challenge expo underway

In addition to lining the race course to cheer on Challlenge Penticton athletes, residents and visitors are invited to stop by the expo at Okanagan Lake Park.

The Athlete Village and Expo opened Thursday and will run through the rest of the event-filled week.

"If they are interested in anything fitness related, from supplements to accessories and specialty items not normally available, it's all here," said Paul Garcha, a roaming ambassador for the Penticton and Wine Country Vistor Centre.

Others on hand include Velofix, a mobile bike shop based out of Kelowna, Melt Mineral Spa, offering massages, Challenge Family merchandise, and ASICS running/triathlon gear.

Andrew Planchat, the operator of Velofix, was there to talk with visitors as well as give athletes the opportunity to have their bikes checked over before race day.

Graeme Clarke travelled from Melbourne, Australia, for the week of events.

"I have a company called Project Clothing, and we do a lot of the Challenge Family merchandise and are also the official uniform suppliers for Triathlon Canada," he said. "Visitors can obviously buy some Penticton logo gear and also visit a lot of other vendors that are here."

There are also food vendors on site.

The expo is open Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

The awards and after party is slated to be held from 8 to 11 p.m., Sunday, at Gyro Park.
