Sex assault suspect caught

A 39-year-old Peachland man is in custody after allegedly breaking into a home and touching two women while they slept.

The incident occurred about 8:45 p.m. Tuesday night at a residence on the 1500 block of Highland Drive North.

According to statements provided to police, the suspect is believed to have gained entry through an open door.

Once inside, he is alleged to have inappropriately touched the women while they slept in the same room.

They awoke and demanded the stranger leave.

The boyfriend of one of the women, who had just returned home, ran after the suspect.

Police set up an area of containment and, with the help of a police dog and witnesses, the suspect was apprehended nearby.

The victims were not physically injured.

The suspect faces charges of break and enter to commit an offence and sexual assault. He remains in custody.
