Evacuation still in effect

The evacuation order and alert for the Bear Creek wildfire remain in effect.

As the fire is still active and key infrastructure is being replaced, residents from 105 properties in the Traders Cove subdivision will remain out of their homes until it is safe for them to return.

The Emergency Support Services Reception Centre in the Lions Community Hall at 2466 Main Street in West Kelowna is now closed for the day. It will reopen at 10 a.m. Wednesday to provide assistance to those residents that are on evacuation order.

Approximately 65 properties remain on evacuation alert, including 51 along Bear Creek Road north of the Parkinson Road intersection including Dougmac, Rose Valley and Petterson Roads and 14 properties in the Pine Point subdivision off Westside Road, north of Traders Cove. These residents should be prepared to leave their home with short notice.

Wilson’s Landing structural firefighters, along with those from the BC Wildfire Service, will continue monitoring patrols through the almost 53-hectare fire area through the night.

RCMP patrols through the evacuation area will also continue.

Westside Road remains closed between Bear Creek Provincial Park and Traders Cove through the fire area.

Crews have been actively working to try and provide some vehicle access and there may be additional information on this tomorrow morning.
