The Kelowna Falcons' trip to Yakima, Wash., didn’t go as planned.
The Pippins, led by ace Zach Draper, trounced the Falcons 8-3 in West Coast League baseball action Friday night.
The Falcons, 10-9 in the second half of the season, were out-hit all night.
With a one game-winning streak on the line, the Falcons flew out of the gate with second baseman Lane Lacrone crossing home to put the Falcons up 1-0. That would be the only scoring they'd see until the ninth inning, by which time the game was out of reach.
Cameron Sterne pinch hit for an RBI double that scored Jesse Moore. Sterne then crossed the plate for the Falcons' third run.
Draper was masterful on the mound for the Pippins, improving his record to 8-0.
Colby Nealy was tagged with the loss for Kelowna.
The Falcons have a chance to redeem themselves tonight in Game 2 of a three-game series. Tanner Knapp will be on the mound for Kelowna.
The Falcons then travel to Bellingham for a showdown with the Bells, before heading home for the final series of the regular season against the Walla Walla Sweets.
With only eight games remaining in the regular season, the Falcons are pushing for a berth in the post-season.
