Nelson’s city campground is getting a facelift with the help of a $62,000 provincial job creation grant.
The Nelson and District Youth Centre says it will use the money from the Job Creation Partnership to hire two workers for 28 weeks to refresh and refurbish the campground, which has about 35 serviced and 20 tent sites.
The campground is a popular place for tourists and residents, and the youth centre puts its profits from operating the facility toward the centre and its programs
The participants will gain skills in construction, carpentry, landscaping and campground maintenance, all of which will increase their opportunities for sustainable employment once the project is completed.
New signage will also be installed and new tent platforms and a small stage will be built.
The work should be completed by the end of October.
