It's BRBN bourbon

Okanagan Spirits has released the first batch of its much-anticipated 'BRBN', a bourbon-style corn whisky.

The grain-corn comes from plantings in the Coldstream Valley.

“We came up with the name BRBN, a phonetic play on the regionally protected name bourbon, just over five years ago when we were sipping our first Laird of Fintry Single Malt Whisky, just prior to its release,”  said Tyler Dyck, Okanagan Spirits CEO.  “We thought it would be a great addition to our whisky portfolio and thus the name and spirit were born.”

The grain-corn is milled, fermented and distilled on-site at two locations. The spirit is then aged in American oak casks to develop the characteristics of a world-class bourbon, according to the company.

Only 10 barrels have been released for the inaugural batch and the distillery expects it to fly off the shelves.

“We’ve been keeping the community up-to-date about BRBN for more than half a decade as we fine-tuned harvesting, preparation and distilling process, so we’ve had people wanting to get their hands on an opportunity to purchase or pre-purchase a bottle for years.  We think these bottles will be snapped up fast,” said Dyck.

Please note: the popular American bourbon whiskey is spelled with an 'e' but that letter is dropped when the whisky is made in Canada.
