Harry Potter Broadway show

'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' is set to be staged on Broadway.

The two-part play - which is set 19 years after J.K. Rowling's books and spin-off movies - has its official opening in London's West End on Saturday (07.30.16) and producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender are working on plans to stage the show in New York.

Colin told the Daily Mail: "We've got to take a very big breath now and get through the weekend.

"Then we'll deal with what the next stage looks like - and hopefully Broadway will be part of that."

The play sees Harry as an "overworked" employee of the Ministry of Magic and centers on his and Ginny Weasley's son Albus and author J.K. Rowling recently pleaded with fans not to spoil the plot of the play for others.

She said in a YouTube video: "You've been amazing for years at keeping Harry Potter secrets so you don't spoil the books for readers who came after you.

"So I'm asking you one more time to keep secrets and let audiences enjoy 'Cursed Child' with all the surprises that we've built into the story.

"Potter fans have always had each other's backs."

Meanwhile, Daniel Radcliffe - who played Harry in the movies - has revealed he is reluctant to see the production in case his presence in the audience distracts from what is going on on stage.

He said: "It would be a weird one. I could be completely wrong in this, but I feel like if I went to see it, there's going to be a lot of 'Harry Potter' fans there in the audience obviously and would that then become a thing?

"Would it be more about them watching me watch the show or would it take away from the show. I would never want to do anything that would distract or take away from the show.

"I don't know. I'm busy doing a play here at the moment, but I'm not sure."
