Falcons rebound, take series

The Kelowna Falcons rebounded Thursday night to take Game 3 of their series against the Wenatchee AppleSox.

The Falcons won 3-1 following a 6-4 Game 1 victory and a 13-3 trouncing the next night.

It was a big win for the Falcons, who are looking to make a post-season berth with nine games left on the schedule.

Max Carter was strong on the mound, backed up by AJ Sawyer and closer Jared Morton.

Michael Ciancio led the action with a single, driving in Sawyer in the bottom of the second. He singled again at his next at-bat, sending home Jesse Moore.

The Falcons added some insurance in the seventh as Bowen Ogata ground out to first, but picked up the RBI as Lane Lacrone scored and made it 3-0.

Wenatchee got on the board in the seventh, when Matt Reitano singled home Ryan Kreidler.

Coach Bryan Donohue was impressed with the Falcons' pitching and defence.

“Defense always plays well behind pitchers that are efficient in the strike zone. Maz struck a whole bunch of guys out, the defence and bullpen did the job, and we got the job done.

“The plan from here on out is to win the last three series. If we do that, we’ll definitely be in it.”

The win puts the Falcons in a tie with Bellingham for second in the West Coast League.

They're on the road for the next six games, against the Yakima Valley Pippins and Bellingham Bells.
