Climber falls to his death

A Vancouver climber has lost his life after a tragic fall on Monday near Revelstoke.

According to Revelstoke RCMP, 61-year-old Carl Douglas was negotiating a steep incline in Glacier National Park when the piece of rock he was holding on to broke away from the rock face causing him to fall.

“At approximately 8 a.m. on Monday July 25, one member in a party of three B.C. residents fell an estimated 300 metres on the West Ridge of Mount Tupper in Glacier National Park,” says Cpl. Thomas Blakney.

“The climbing group of three were known to one another and they were equipped and wearing appropriate climbing gear.”

Blakney says Revelstoke RCMP, the BC Coroners Service and Parks Canada's Visitor Safety Team attended.

The fall occurred on a popular route for climbers.
