Severe thunderstorm watch

Another severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for the entire Okanagan Valley and parts of Southern B.C.

Environment Canada says that thunderstorms are expected to develop across the Central, South and North Okanagan today, and there is the potential for some of these storms to become severe.

“The main concern is heavy downpours, however large hail and strong winds gusts are also possible,” says Environment Canada.

“Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.”

Meteorologists warn that lightning kills and injures Canadians every year so remember, ‘when thunder roars, go indoors!’

Severe thunderstorm watches like this one are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
