Busted after bashing Bronco

A trio of youths found themselves on the wrong side of the law after they were caught fleeing from a suspected stolen vehicle.

Kelowna RCMP arrested the youths who ran from the scene of a single-vehicle rollover crash involving a Ford Explorer believed to be stolen overnight.

It all started at about 5:10 a.m. Monday, when police responded to a report of an accident in the 1700 block of Byrns Road.

“Information received was that three males were observed fleeing the scene on foot into fields south of the crash location. Indicators at the scene suggest the Ford Explorer rolled end over end multiple times. Police later confirmed the vehicle had in fact been stolen sometime over night from the driveway of a home in Rutland,” said Const. Jesse O’Donaghey.

A police service dog was called in to assist with a search for the suspects. Three youth male suspects were taken into police custody without incident and examined at the scene by emergency health services.

“Each face potential charges including theft of a motor vehicle,” said O’Donaghey.

Anyone who witnessed the incident and have not yet spoken to police are asked to contact the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300.
