Family dog dies in fire

A Surrey family is in mourning after losing their beloved one-eyed Chihuahua in a house fire.

The fire broke out at 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the home on 99th Avenue and 21 firefighters were deployed to battle the flames.

Several people were in the home at the time, but were able to get out safely with the dog being the only casualty.

Neighbour Parminder Buttar was concerned the flames would spread next door, and used a garden house to stop the fire from advancing.

“I thought my house was going on fire as well, because it was so close,” Buttar told CTV News, noting that some of the siding of her home melted.

The house was gutted by the flames and officials said it is too dangerous to enter so a cause is not known.

However, officials said there is no indication it was suspicious.
