A 44-year-old man is behind bars after driving erratically on Highway 5 near Merritt with six firearms in his vehicle.
According to RCMP Cpl. Dan Moskaluk, a white Toyota Camry struck a transport truck about 7:50 a.m. on July 21. The driver of the Toyota tried to flee the scene, but, thanks to the quick work of a witness, was detained.
“Merritt RCMP arrested the man on arrival and on searching his vehicle located a total of six firearms,” said Moskaluk.
The man, who is known to police, had two handguns and four long guns in his possession along with ammunition.
“One of the handguns, a semi-automatic 9mm, was loaded with a 15-round magazine,” said Moskaluk.
