UPDATE: 10:06 a.m.
Lumby RCMP have confirmed a 45-year-old woman died at the Mabel Lake Provincial Park Sunday.
Initial reports said a child was pulled from the lake, but Cpl. Trevor Tribes said it was actually a Calgary woman.
Police were called to the campground north of Lumby to assist the B.C. Ambulance Service who were attempting to resuscitate the woman.
“The woman had been swimming in Mabel Lake prior to going into medical distress, advising that she was not feeling well and having difficulty breathing,” said Tribes.
The woman was rushed to shore where a retired nurse performed CPR until ambulance crews arrived and continued trying to resuscitate the woman, including performing CPR for 30 minutes.
“Sadly, despite the efforts of all concerned, the woman was not revived and died at the scene,” said Tribes. “The B.C. Coroner Service has assumed conduct of this matter and police are not treating the death as suspicious.”
The name of the deceased is not being released at this time.
