Marathon swimmer's diet

UPDATE: 8:55 a.m.

U.S. swimmer Adam Ellenstein departed on marathon swim at 5:49 a.m. Monday, according to his Facebook page.

U.S. ultra-distance triathlete Adam Ellenstein was expected to begin his marathon swim of Okanagan Lake starting at 5:15 a.m. Monday.

Ellenstein, accompanied by 16 people in motorized boats and kayaks, is attempting to set a Guinness World Record for the fastest north-to-south, non-stop swim of Okanagan Lake, July 25-26.

The Michigan-based athlete may not get a chance for any shut eye during the Vernon to Penticton swim, but he will be eating – and it appears some of that will be junk food.

“Adam will consume about 10,000 calories during the swim. And, we're stocked up for any possible craving,” states the VictorySwim105 Facebook page.

A photo shows Doritos, Snickers and Reese's Pieces have been purchased for Adam's snack food.

VictorySwim105 will also raise awareness and support to benefit those with Parkinson’s disease through a partnership with the Davis Phinney Foundation. The Foundation’s mission is to help people with Parkinson’s to live well.

Organizers are uging people to encourage Ellenstein during his swim by posting to the VictorySwim105 Facebook page.

“We will share your messages with Adam as he swims the length of the Okanagan Lake,” organizers say.
