Six injured in fire

A massive fire ripped through a Langley home sending six people to hospital Saturday.

Langley Deputy Fire Chief Russ Jenkins said the fire started at around 2:45 p.m. when someone accidentally tripped over a heating element used for cooking on the backyard deck.

The element was connected to a propane tank which ruptured and separated from the hose and seal, causing an explosion.

The fire then rapidly spread to a hedge. In all, eight fire trucks were called to battle the blaze.

Officials were concerned it could spread to a wooded area of the nearby Tall Timber Golf Course.

Two of the six people taken to hospital with second- and third-degree burns. Two more suffered minor burns.

Jenkins said it’s very odd for a propane tank to explode.
