Suspicious wildfire

UPDATED: 7:55 a.m.

Police are considering the wildfire along the BX Trail Friday night to be suspicious at this time.

Investigators are examining the area to determine the origin of the fire and the possible cause.

No structures were impacted by the blaze, and no one was reported injured.

Police are asking anyone with information on the fire to call Vernon RCMP at 250-545-7171.

ORIGINAL 10:44 p.m.

BX-Swan Lake fire crews are on the scene of a wildfire along the BX Trail by Star Road, east of the Foothills subdivision.

Photos sent in to Castanet show trees and brush on fire.

The fire reportedly broke out around 9:30 p.m. and firefighters were still fighting the blaze more than an hour later. In the darkness, smoke could be seen rising from the creek area.

"The fire is on the high side of the trail," said an eye witness at the scene.

The fire was close enough to one residence that the witness could "see flames reflected off of the house."

An RCMP vehicle had blocked off the southern section of Star Road and an officer was stopping traffic and pedestrians from getting close to the fire site.

Castanet will  have further details as they become available.
