Big win for Falcons

The Kelowna Falcons bounced back in a big way Thursday night after dropping the first game in their three-game series with the Yakima Pippins Wednesday.

The Falcons came out strong in the second game, hammering the Pippins 8-1.

Starting pitcher Max Carter kept his cool from the beginning, keeping the Pippins off the board until the sixth inning.

The Falcons scored their eight runs on 10 hits, taking advantage of several errors made by the Pippins.

After scoring three runs in both the second and third innings, the Falcons padded their lead in the seventh with two more runs.

“Those two runs late in the game were the defining moment for me,” said Falcons coach Bryan Donohue. “The three spots were huge, but it was still within reach (for the Pippins). But you extend that lead to seven, in this league, with these pitchers, and it’s game over.”

Thursday's win moved the Falcons’ record to 8-6 in the second half of the season.

They'll look to continue their success against the Pippins Friday night, where proceeds from the gate will go towards the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign.

The first pitch will be thrown at 6:35 p.m.
